MAGMA Inc. hosts first Casting Designer and Buyer Seminar in North America

MAGMA Foundry Technologies Inc. hosted its first North American Casting Designer and Buyer Seminar on May 7, 2009.  The seminar covered material on how casting process simulation is utilized in the product development process.  The 32 attendees consisted of designers and buyers from various industrial sectors including automotive, mining, heavy truck, aerospace, and recreational vehicles along with several others.  There were several benefits highlighted throughout the seminar by various outside speakers from part design and metal casting production.

  • Oshkosh Corporation presented case studies showing how they utilize casting process simulation early on in the design process, which improves internal communication, improves castability and reduces time to market.
  • Eagle Alloy, Inc. was able to produce higher quality castings at a lower price by working with a collaborative team of engineers and designers from Micro Motion, a division of Emerson Process.
  • Chicago White Metal Casting, Inc. presented how utilizing simulation helps their customers beat the competition to market by reducing redesign and tooling time by 30% while still being able to meet the desired quality demands.
  • Carley Foundry presented how Harley-Davidson designers were able to work along with Carley engineers in designing the optimal oil tank casting by utilizing casting process simulation through the entire development process.

Additional case studies showed that when part designers and metal casters work together using casting process simulation, product launches are improved through lower production costs and superior quality castings.

Future MAGMA seminars will be held specifically for those involved in the development and procurement of metal castings.
