Getting new castings to market on time

Cost reduction

Getting new castings to market on time is one of the most critical parameters for the competitiveness of foundries. The tighter the schedule until job one, the more critical the time to do further experimental trials will become. In the case shown here, potential cold lap problems indicated in the original simulation have been avoided through design changes before the first trials. Any gating design modification would cost US$ 500 per test. Any scrapped casting would create internal costs of $ 245 and the costs for the trials themselves cost an estimated $ 1,000 each. For any pattern change, an extra $ 1,000 has to be allocated. Simulation helps in cutting this trial and error approach to a minimum and improves the speed to market.
