EU Project NADIA Comes to a Successful Conclusion

Aachen/Brescia, April 2010. „NADIA” stands for “New Automotive components Designed for and manufactured by Intelligent processing of light Alloys”. The project was supported by the European Union with 7.2 million Euros and involved the participation of 24 industrial and university partners in the period 2006-2010. Participants in the project included, among others, the University of Padua, University of Trondheim, Jönköping University, Foundry Institute RWTH Aachen, the Scandinavian research organization SINTEF, INGUS AB, Centro Ricerche Fiat, Ford Forschungszentrum Aachen, Daimler AG and Teksid Aluminium. The coordinator of the NADIA project was MAGMA’s partner in Italy, EnginSoft S.p.a.

On 15 and 16 May 2010, MAGMA participated in the final project meeting and a subsequent Mini-Conference presenting the results of the NADIA Research Project

The objective of the NADIA project was to support the exploitation of the potential of light multifunctional alloys for car and truck components and systems through advances in nano and micro technologies. The alloys, the processes and the engineering methods and tools coming from NADIA should lead to an optimized and intelligent use of materials in components for the transport industry. MAGMA’s focus within this project was on the areas microstructure and property development during heat treatment of aluminum castings, the prediction of microporosity development during solidification, and applying a quality mapping approach to property predictions in crash relevant magnesium die castings. During the Mini-Conference held at the METEF-FONDEQ trade fair, Dr. Marc Schneider from MAGMA GmbH jointly presented results from the project on “New design and manufacturing approaches for Cylinder Heads” together with Dr. Wolfgang Rehm from Daimler AG.

MAGMA thanks all the partners, and in particular the coordinator EnginSoft, for their enthusiasm and their important contributions, and is pleased with the successful project.
