This year provided another chance to immerse the visitors into the world of metal casting, using an “edu-tainment” mix of fun and knowledge. Participating in the “Get-in-Form” project, an initiative of the German foundry industry and educational institutions, MAGMA was part of a live small-scale foundry, giving students, collegians, and apprentices an in-depth view into the world of metal casting. Professionals aided the young visitors in producing their own aluminum casting in a sand mold. In addition, MAGMA simulation results provided them with insight into what happens inside the mold, visualizing the basics of metal flow, cooling and solidification. The big interest in the “Get-in-Form” initiative demonstrated that there was a potential foundry (wo)man in many of the visitors, quickly awakened and motivated to learn more about the natural sciences and technical fields of work – in particular the foundry world.
