Use MAGMA ECONOMICS to Consider and Evaluate MAGMASOFT® Simulation Results for Die Casting
MAGMA ECONOMICS enables the quantitative evaluation of costs, energy consumption and CO₂ emissions together with quality criteria directly in MAGMASOFT®.
MAGMA ECONOMICS Example: Angle Gear for an Outboard Engine
- In the simulation, 16 different gating variants and overflows were tested to manufacture an outboard engine housing within specified tolerances. The goal was to identify the design with the highest quality.
- Using a parallel coordinate diagram and applying the 'Porosity' quality criterion, design 10 was identified as the best variant in terms of casting quality, showing the lowest porosity values. However, an economic evaluation was not performed at this stage.
- Employing MAGMA ECONOMICS allows users to systematically integrate both quality and cost criteria into the evaluation. It became evident that design 10 is among the most expensive variants.
- The combined analysis of quality and costs using MAGMA ECONOMICS enables the targeted optimization of casting designs according to individual requirements. For instance, design 3 achieved a cost savings of €0.85 per part by allowing minimal concessions in porosity — while maintaining comparable filling conditions and keeping porosity within specification.
